There at the coast of Kona with its peaceful cumulus clouds….begins one of the most popular hula tunes of all time.
I Kona celebrates Big Island Hawai`i’s historic Kailua-Kona region. With its dreamy melody it offers Falsetto voices of all ages and genders a chance to shine.
And if you are apt at reading between the lines, you can discover some „kaona“ in the second verse, that typical hawaiian art of veiled meanings in poetry.
The song is clearly about personal relationships. Or as one of my Kumu put it: „This song is about 2 people spending a weekend together in Kona. They are married, but not necessarily to each other….”.
